Wallace Akerley, MD
Dr. Wallace Akerley was born in Rhode Island and received his MD degree from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. He then did his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, California.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Akerley did his fellowship training in Oncology at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, California. He then did a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Dr. Akerley joined the faculty at Brown University from 1989 to 1999 as an Assistant Professor of medicine and later Interim Chief of Medical Oncology. He then went to Boston University to be the Chief of Medical Oncology, Associate Director and Professor of Medicine.
Since 2002, Dr. Akerley has served as Director of Thoracic Oncology, Huntsman Cancer Institute, at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He has also served as a Director of Clinical Trials and Outcome Studies for HCCP (Huntsman Cancer Care Program), Senior Director of Clinical Research, Director Utah Cancer Registry, and Senior Director of Community Oncology Research. Presently he is Chair of the PRMC (Protocol Review & Monitoring Committee), Director of the Lung Cancer Disease Center of Excellence and member of the NCCN’s Steering committee and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Panel.
Dr. Akerley specializes in Thoracic Oncology.
