Michele Andrasik, PhD, EdM, MA, MS
Dr. Michele Andrasik is a clinical health psychologist working to build and enhance partnerships with marginalized communities in clinical research, with a focus on ongoing vaccine trials for HIV and COVID-19. She is a principal staff scientist in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC). She is the director of social and behavioral sciences and community engagement for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network, headquartered at FHCC, and held the same role for the COVID-19 Prevention Network, whose operations center was at FHCC. Dr. Andrasik has led a robust Social and Behavioral Sciences research agenda for the HVTN for over a decade. She has extensive experience working with communities and community organizations, both as a researcher and as a service provider. Dr. Andrasik also works to increase the availability of HIV/AIDS and COVID educational resources within marginalized communities. Her areas of expertise include community-based participatory research approaches, implicit bias, historical trauma, health inequities and qualitative methods.
Dr. Andrasik received her M.S. and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Miami in 2003 and 2006 respectively. Previously, in 2000, she received her Ed.M. in psychological counseling and her M.A. in health education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She joined the Fred Hutch faculty in 2010. Prior to her doctoral training, Dr. Andrasik served as the Director of AIDS services for Community Counseling and Mediation, a community-based organization in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
