Dr. Poola earned MBBS and MS in General Surgery from a Medical School in India. He later migrated to the US and completed a General surgery residency at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. He joined as a faculty at Southern Illinois School of Medicine, Springfield IL in 2014 after completing a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery, He is presently an associate professor of surgery and board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Colon and rectal Surgery.

Dr. Poola has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery including robotic surgery for colon and rectal diseases including cancers. He served as a program director for general surgery in the past and is the director of surgical education at SIU. He lives in Springfield with his wife and two children.
