Jay Raval, MD
Dr. Jay Raval is a board-certified Clinical Pathologist with sub-specialty certification in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a Howard Holderness Distinguished Medical Student Research Scholar. He completed a surgical internship, clinical pathology residency, and blood banking and transfusion medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and The Institute for Transfusion Medicine.
He is currently an Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of New Mexico where he serves as Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Director of Transfusion Medicine and Therapeutic Pathology. He directs and guides operations for the blood bank, tissue bank, therapeutic apheresis program, and cellular therapies laboratory.
He is an active member of the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) and Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB); sits on the Editorial Board of relevant journals in his field including Journal of Clinical Apheresis and Transfusion; and is a member of the ASFA Board of Directors. His research interests include exploring evidence-based therapeutic apheresis and transfusion medicine practices with a focus on clinical and translational investigations; he has written over 350 publications, abstracts, and book chapters.
