Stephen Kimani, MD, MSc
Dr Stephen Kimani is an Assistant Professor and Breast Medical Oncologist at the Department of Medicine and an Investigator at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, where he is one of the core members of the global oncology workgroup. Dr. Kimani holds several board certifications, including American Board of Internal Medicine certifications in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology.
He completed medical school at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Before relocating to the USA for medical subspecialty training and global health, he served as a medical officer in the Kenyan Ministry of Health. He completed a Master of Science in Global Health and Internal Medicine residency at Duke University and a sub-speciality fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an alumnus of the Fogarty International Center’s postdoctoral fellowship program, focusing on global oncology, supported by the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Kimani has spent most of the past two decades in global health settings, including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Malawi, and the USA, where he has been actively engaged in research, clinical practice, and education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, with notable works on epidemiology, clinical management, and post-treatment survivorship outcomes of cancer survivors in sub-Saharan Africa. He has received numerous awards for his contributions, including the Pope Clinical Trainee Award from the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
