Dr. Atul Kumar attended Temple University School of Medicine, and joined University of New Mexico Cancer Center as a thoracic oncologist. Dr. Kumar's clinical and research interests are in lung cancer. He is interested in several aspects of the disease: chemoprevention of lung cancer, differences in morbidity and mortality due to health disparities in lung cancer screening and treatment, biology and treatment of lung cancer. Dr. Kumar is committed to working to understand the reasons behind such health disparities in the Hispanic populations in collaboration with pulmonary and population sciences departments, which will give them insight into this important aspect of lung cancer care in the state of New Mexico.
