Dr. Emerson is a surgeon and oncologist who specializes in the care of women with cancer. She completed medical school at OHSU, and did her residency and fellowship at Brown University. Dr. Emerson says she was influenced in her training by many kind and compassionate doctors who set the example of caring deeply for a patient and her family, instead of focusing purely on the disease. Her approach to medicine is guided by personal experiences with friends, family members and beloved patients who have lived through serious illness with grace and humor. In addition to the surgical and technical skills of gynecologic oncology, Dr. Emerson’s training also had an intentional focus on recognizing and celebrating humanism and the arts in medicine.
