Siddhartha Ganguly, MD, FACP
Losing my grandfather with metastatic cancer was not easy, but I knew back then that I will pursue a career in my life to understand why cancer develops and how we can battle for a cure. We have come a long way, but many more miles to go. I believe in patient-centric care. I promise to treat my patients who are suffering from hematological malignancies, with cutting edge, evidence-based medicine. I believe in research and clinical trials. Improving quality of life is as important to me as finding a cure for cancer.
I graduated from Calcutta Medical College, India in 1987 and completed a residency in Internal Medicine from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. I arrived in USA in 1993 with my wife and completed a year of internship from SIU School of Medicine, Springfield, IL before moving to Houston. I completed my residency in Medicine and fellowship in Hematology from Baylor College of Medicine in 1996 and later completed a year of fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation from the Cell and Gene Therapy at the Houston Methodist Hospital.
After completing the fellowship, I joined the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) in 2003 and stayed there till June 2021. I was promoted to full professor in 2013 and in 2020 was awarded an endowed professorship in medical oncology at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. I joined Houston Methodist Hospital and Neal Cancer Center as the Carol Cockrell Curran Distinguished Centennial Chief of Hematological Malignancy in July 2021 and took over the responsibility as the Associate Director of Clinical Investigation for the Cancer Center since July 2022. In addition to the clinical and teaching responsibilities, I am intimately involved with the mission of research and development of new frontiers in cancer treatment. I strive to provide our patients the best possible treatment possible for their diseases and enroll in clinical trials whenever available. I am involved with many BMT CTN and SWOG/Alliance sponsored trials. I personally have more than 20 years of experience in conducting clinical trials as PI (both intramural and extramural funded projects, investigator initiated and pharma sponsored). I treat patients with all types of hematological malignancies, although my research focus is on Myeloma and Lymphoma especially using cellular and immunotherapy.
