Wei Zhang, MD, PhD
Dr. Wei Zhang received her medical degree from China and her PhD in Japan. She was working as a research associate scientist at Yale University School of Medicine before staring her pathology residency training in US. After pathology residency training, she subsequently completed her GI/Liver Pathology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center and Molecular Genetic Pathology fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Before joining the University of Kansas Medical Center, Dr. Zhang has been working as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She served as the Head of GI/Liver Pathology there. Since joining the University of Kansas Medical Center, she has been leading the molecular pathology of solid tumor and organizing the molecular tumor board.
Dr. Zhang is actively engaged in the diagnostic surgical and molecular genetic pathology service at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She has special clinical interests in solid tumor genetics. Her major research interests focus on the pathogenesis and treatment of anal, colorectal, and liver cancers. She is also interested in biomarker discovery and development of new molecular diagnostic assays.
