Jess Schwartz

Jess D. Schwartz, MD, FACS, FCCP is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma. He is a board-certified thoracic surgeon with extensive specialty training in minimally invasive techniques including robotic and video-assisted thoracic surgery. He has a special interest in thoracic malignancies and specializes in treating patients with lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mediastinal malignancies including thymoma and chest wall tumors. Before joining the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Schwartz spent 15 years in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico and in 2016 performed the very first successful robot-assisted lobectomy for lung cancer in the state.
Having trained in thoracic surgery at NYU and Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Schwartz is well respected in his field. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles that have been featured in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Schwartz is dedicated to a patient-centered approach and strives to care for each patient as if they were a member of his own family. This philosophy stems from his loss of his mother to cancer as a teenager. As a surgeon, Dr. Schwartz feels privileged that he can touch the lives of his patients and families and be there to comfort them.
