From there she started her journey to transitioning to healthcare, eventually completing her nursing degree at Seattle University in Washington State, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and awarded the Spirit of Nursing Award in 2012.
Chermaine has great passion for Oncology, which is the core of her nursing philosophy- “to care and to serve the sick and the most vulnerable”. This passion led her to eventually pursue a leadership path, where she hopes to affect change in the delivery of safe and effective care for all patients. She is a visionary with a servants’ heart and a passion to serve, improve, and elevate the healthcare provided to all patients.
Improving the flow of nursing practice and keeping abreast with gold standards of care is also her focus. In 2021 and 2022, she presented posters in the PSONS Symposium and ONS congress respectively. Her posters were entitled: “Scheduling Optimization in an Infusion Center” and “Ensuring Patients’ Access to Quality Care during the Pandemic- An Enhanced Pre-chemotherapy Education via Telehealth by Oncology Nurses in the Infusion Center”.
In addition to her nursing career and work in healthcare, she also completed her degree in Behavioral Science and worked in varying industries including insurance, and supply chain management. This background and experiences had tremendous impact in her leadership, people management, organizational skills, focus, and thought processes.
“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”- John F. Kennedy. Leadership for Chermaine is not just about title or designation, it is about one’s ability to influence others, to inspire and to leave a footprint everywhere she goes. Today, Chermaine continues to follow the path of service, leadership, and lifelong learning.
