Andrea Wahner Hendrickson, M.D
Andrea E. Wahner Hendrickson, M.D., is a consultant and chair of the Gynecologic Tumor Group in the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with a joint appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Wahner Hendrickson serves as the interim director of the Early Phase Therapeutics Novel Agents Disease Team for the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. She joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2012 and holds the academic rank of associate professor of oncology and assistant professor of pharmacology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
Dr. Wahner Hendrickson’s clinical and research efforts are focused on caring for women with gynecologic malignancies and developing early-phase clinical trials. As a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Ovarian Cancer Task Force member, Dr. Wahner Hendrickson reviews and prioritizes national and international clinical trials for ovarian cancer. She also is the Mayo Clinic representative for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Ovarian Cancer Guidelines Committee and a core member of the NRG Oncology Developmental Therapeutics Committee. With an overarching goal of identifying better therapies for ovarian cancer, she has a strong clinical trial record, including leading NCI-sponsored trials and national phase I/II trials within the Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network and the Mayo Clinic Ovarian Cancer SPORE.
Dr. Wahner Hendrickson is a member of the Mayo Clinic Data Safety and Monitoring Board and contributes nationally to the NCI Institutional Review Board with an adult early-phase emphasis. She also serves on the editorial board for Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovations, Quality & Outcomes.
Dr. Wahner Hendrickson is strongly committed to education. She is a career adviser for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program and an associate program director for scholarly activity within the Mayo Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Program. She also serves on the M.D.-Ph.D. Program Committee and holds teaching/examining privileges in Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Throughout her training and career, Dr. Wahner Hendrickson has received many awards and honors, including Outstanding Trainee for Oncology and Outstanding Medical Oncology Fellow, conferred by Mayo Clinic, and the Paul Calabresi Program Career Development Award for Clinical Oncology, conferred by the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Wahner Hendrickson’s professional memberships include the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the NRG Medical Oncology Committee, a National Clinical Trials Network group.
