Hamza Hashmi, M.D., M.B.B.S.
I am a hematologist-oncologist specializing in the care of people with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders, including:
I see patients with newly-diagnosed and relapsed myeloma (cancer that has come back after treatment). I have expertise in using different types of therapies, including chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant, and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy, to treat myeloma.
A blood cancer diagnosis can be life-changing not only for the person with cancer, but also their family. I believe myeloma is not a sprint, but a marathon, and I take great pride in helping my patients at every step of their care journey. Compassion, empathy, competence, and commitment are the core values of my clinical practice. While I share my knowledge and wisdom with my patients and their families, I also rely on them to share their hopes, goals, and preferences for care during the decision-making process. I don’t just listen to their wants and needs — I use them to guide their cancer treatment.
I am excited by the prospect of developing new chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, like CAR T cell and bispecific antibodies for multiple myeloma, through clinical trials. In addition to novel therapies, my research centers on developing a better understanding of the interplay of cancer and immunotherapy to overcome treatment resistance in multiple myeloma.
Outside of work, I am an amateur photographer who likes to narrate stories through a camera’s lens.
