Dr. Glen Barber, PhD, FRS, is a professor in the Department of Surgery/Division of Oncology, Director of the Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation and Associate Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation with the James Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ohio State University
Dr. Barber’s primary interest is in studying cellular sensing mechanisms that trigger host defense countermeasures in response to microbial infection and cancer. This has included his discovery of a signaling pathway controlled by a new innate immune regulator referred to as STING (stimulator of interferon genes) that is activated by DNA based microbes such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites. He is interested in understanding the role of innate immunity and the control of cancer developing and developing immunotherapeutics for the treatment of malignant disease.
