Kristine Calhoun, MD
Kristine Calhoun, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon, Associate Director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Breast Health Center, Clerkship Site Director for UW third-year medical students, Director of Medical Student Surgical Education for the Department of Surgery, Director of the OSCE Program, and a Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington.

Dr. Calhoun's hope is the same for each patient: that they understand what treatment is being recommended and why. She understands that these decisions can be challenging and experienced this firsthand when her son was born with a heart defect requiring surgery. She found open communication invaluable and aims to be a good communicator with every patient, every time.
Dr. Calhoun is currently the lead investigator of a study looking at lymphedema after breast cancer surgical treatment. In addition to clinical research, she is actively involved in surgical education research and training the next generation of physicians here at UW, where she earned her own MD degree.
